Terms of Service
Last updated: October 25, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using the Splitter app ("Splitter", "we", "us"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree to them, please don't use the app.
2. What Splitter Is
Splitter is a record-keeping tool for tracking shared and personal expenses. Splitter does not move, hold, or transfer money on your behalf — when you "settle up," you record that a payment happened outside the app (e.g. cash, bank transfer, another payment app); Splitter simply keeps the ledger accurate. We're not a bank, payment processor, or money transmitter.
3. Your Account
You need an account to use Splitter, created with an email/password or Google sign-in. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that happens under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use Splitter.
4. Acceptable Use
- Don't use Splitter for anything illegal, fraudulent, or to misrepresent who owes what.
- Don't attempt to access another user's account or data you're not part of.
- Don't upload content (names, notes, receipt images) that is abusive, illegal, or infringes someone else's rights.
- Don't attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or overload the app or its backend services.
5. Your Content
You keep ownership of the expenses, notes, and images you add to Splitter. By adding content to a group, you're giving the other members of that group permission to see it, as described in our Privacy Policy. You're responsible for what you upload.
6. Group Data
Expenses and settlements you add to a shared group become part of that group's shared record, since other members rely on them for accurate balances. Leaving a group or deleting your account does not remove your past contributions from a group's history.
7. Third-Party Services
Splitter runs on Google services — Firebase (Google Cloud) for sign-in, data storage, notifications and crash reports, Google ML Kit for reading receipts on your phone, and Google AdMob for the ads that keep Splitter free. Your use of Splitter is also subject to the availability and terms of those services. See our Privacy Policy for what each one processes.
8. Account Termination
You can delete your account at any time from Profile > Settings > Delete Account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or put other users at risk.
9. No Warranty
Splitter is provided "as is." We work to keep balances accurate and the app reliable, but we don't guarantee it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for every use case — especially anything involving legal or financial disputes between users.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Splitter and its developer aren't liable for disputes between users over money owed, or for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Splitter is a record-keeping aid, not a party to any debt between you and your friends or groupmates.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as Splitter evolves. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do; continued use of the app after a change means you accept the revised terms.
